Local Moving Company in Montreal: Movers for Walk-Ups, Plexes and Moving Day
Trust Canadian Movers (Trust Canadian Van Lines on the paperwork) runs its Montreal operation from 7401 Newman Blvd #34, LaSalle, QC H8N 2V7, in the south-west of the island. A typical week for our Montreal movers: a 4½ on the second floor of a Rosemont triplex, a condo in Griffintown with a booked service elevator, a family house in Pointe-Claire, and a truck heading down the 20 to Ottawa or Toronto. You get the price in writing before anything is booked, and the crew that loads your things is the crew that unloads them.
- Stairs are the job here. Outdoor spiral staircases, narrow interior stairs and third-floor walk-ups are planned for on the quote call, not discovered at 8 a.m.
- We plan July 1st early. Our Moving Day calendar opens months ahead, and we tell you honestly when a date is full.
- No surprises on the bill. Hourly rate, minimum, travel time and materials are listed line by line, and long-distance moves get one fixed price.

About our Montreal team
Movers who plan around Montreal's stairs, lanes and lease dates
We started moving people in 2006, and Montreal taught us quickly that it plays by its own rules. Most leases end on June 30, a huge share of the city moves in the same few days, and a lot of homes are reached by an iron staircase on the outside of the building. A moving company that treats Montreal like any other city ends up running late, scratching railings and arguing about the bill.
So we ask the questions that matter here: which floor, inside or outside stairs, is there a ruelle behind the building, does the borough need a parking permit, is there a service elevator to book. The answers decide the crew size, the truck and the start time, and they go straight into your estimate.
- Sized for the building. A 3½ on a third floor with spiral stairs gets a different crew than the same 3½ in an elevator building.
- Furniture taken apart when it won't turn. Sofas, bed frames and tables come apart instead of being forced around a tight landing.
- Clear about Moving Day. If late June or early July is already full, we say so and suggest dates that are still open.
Montreal moving services
From a 3½ walk-up to a West Island house: what our crews handle
No packages, no upsell. You pick what you need and the estimate shows the cost of each piece.
Apartment moves, 1½ to 6½
Most of Montreal rents, and most of our local work is apartments in Rosemont, Villeray, the Plateau, Verdun and NDG. We pad-wrap furniture, protect door frames and railings, take apart what won’t fit through the stairwell and put it back together in the new place.
Plexes with outdoor staircases
Duplexes and triplexes with curved iron stairs are the classic Montreal challenge. We measure the tight turns on the call, send enough people to carry heavy pieces safely, use shoulder straps and padding on the railings, and in winter we salt and clear the steps before the first box comes down.
Montreal to Ottawa, Toronto and the rest of Ontario
The Montreal–Ontario corridor is one of our busiest routes. A move to Ottawa usually happens the same day; Toronto and the GTA take one to two days. Each item is listed and tagged, and you get a fixed written price before you commit.
Cross-Canada moves from Quebec
Leaving Montreal for Calgary, Vancouver or the Maritimes? We price it by inventory and distance, agree on a pickup and delivery window with you, and keep you updated while your shipment is on the road.
Offices, studios & retail spaces
Small offices downtown and in Old Montreal, studios in Mile End and Saint-Henri, shops on commercial streets. We move after hours or over a weekend, work with your building’s loading dock rules and set desks back where your floor plan says.
IT gear & electronics
Computers, monitors, servers and TVs are wrapped in anti-static material, packed in rigid bins and labelled by desk or room, so reconnecting everything is quick.
Full or partial packing
With everyone moving at once around July 1st, boxes and free evenings are both hard to find. Our packers can do the whole home or just the kitchen and the fragile pieces, with proper dish packs, wardrobe boxes and labels that say which room each box goes to.
Downsizing and moves to seniors' residences
When a parent leaves a long-time home in Côte-Saint-Luc, Verdun or the West Island for a smaller apartment or a residence, we help sort what goes, what is donated and what goes to family, then set up the new room so it’s ready that evening.
Pianos and heavy, awkward items
Upright pianos, safes, marble tables and gym equipment, often from an upper floor with no elevator. We bring piano boards, stair-climbing dollies and an extra mover when the stairs call for it, and we tell you up front if something can’t go safely by the stairs.
Montreal moving prices
How much a move costs in Montreal in 2026
Most local Montreal moves in 2026 come in around $120 to $170 per hour with two movers and a truck, $155 to $225 with three and $195 to $285 with four, plus a 3-hour minimum and one hour of travel. A 3½ walk-up usually totals $480 to $1,020, and a 4½ or 5½ in a plex $930 to $1,800. The last week of June and the first days of July cost more because demand is so high. Moves out of Quebec are quoted as one fixed price.
| Home or route | Crew and truck | Usual time | Rate | Typical total (CAD) | Included |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3½ walk-up apartment (Plateau, Villeray, Rosemont) | 2 movers + 16–20 ft truck | 3 – 5 hours | $120 – $170 / hr | $480 – $1,020 | Railing and stair padding, blankets, mattress covers |
| 4½ or 5½ in a plex with outdoor stairs (Verdun, NDG, Hochelaga) | 3 movers + 24 ft truck | 5 – 7 hours | $155 – $225 / hr | $930 – $1,800 | Furniture take-apart, wardrobe boxes, shoulder straps |
| Condo with a service elevator (Griffintown, downtown, Nuns' Island) | 2–3 movers + 20–24 ft truck | 4 – 6 hours | $120 – $225 / hr | $600 – $1,580 | Elevator padding, insurance certificate for the building |
| 3–4 bedroom house (Pointe-Claire, Kirkland, Dollard-des-Ormeaux) | 4 movers + 26 ft truck | 7 – 9 hours | $195 – $285 / hr | $1,560 – $2,850 | Room-by-room loading, appliance dolly, full wrap |
| Montreal to Ottawa, about 200 km | 3 movers + dedicated truck | Same day | Fixed price | $1,500 – $3,400 | Door to door, no transfer between trucks |
| Montreal to Toronto or the GTA, about 540 km | Dedicated truck or shared load | 1 – 3 days | Fixed price | $2,800 – $6,500 | Item tagging, long-haul wrapping, delivery window |
Use these as a guide, not a quote. The floor, the type of stairs, how close the truck can park, packing and the date all change the price. Your written estimate is what you'll pay.
Line by line: what you see on a Montreal estimate
- Movers and hourly rate
- Number of movers, rate per hour and the 3-hour minimum, then billing in 15-minute steps after that.
- Travel time
- A single hour of travel for anywhere on the island, from LaSalle to your address and back.
- Protection for the home
- Pads on railings and door frames, floor runners, furniture blankets, and taking beds and tables apart and back together.
- Materials
- Boxes, tape, dish packs and mattress covers, each with its own price, so you only pay for what you use.
- Heavy items
- One agreed fee for a piano, a safe or anything over 250 lb, written on the estimate ahead of time.
- Damage protection
- Released value protection at $0.60 per lb per item at no cost, or full value protection if you add it in writing.
Montreal details that move the number
- Outside spiral stairs
- Every trip down a curved iron staircase takes longer, especially with a sofa or a fridge. We count the floors and turns on the call.
- Curb space for the truck
- Some boroughs want a permit and signs to reserve parking. Without a spot near the door, the extra walking adds time.
- The July 1st rush
- Late June and early July are the busiest days of the year. Booking a weekday just before or after costs less.
- Bridges and off-island trips
- Moves to Laval or the South Shore depend on bridge traffic, so we pick routes and start times that keep the clock down.
Ballpark your Montreal move
A quick look at crew, truck and 2026 cost for a regular weekday move. No email needed.
- Outdoor spiral staircase, second floor or higher: add 45–60 min
- No parking near the door: add 30–60 min
- June 25 to July 5: about +20%
- Ice on outdoor stairs, December to March: about +5%
These figures use typical 2026 Montreal rates. Once we know your floor, your stairs and your parking, the written estimate replaces this range.
Choosing who moves you
Montreal moving options compared: a real mover, a booking site or doing it yourself
Around July 1st, plenty of booking sites take deposits and then go looking for a truck. We’re the mover itself: our crews, our trucks and our insurance, run from 7401 Newman Blvd #34, LaSalle, QC H8N 2V7. Here’s how the three options stack up.
| Question | Trust Canadian Movers | Booking site or broker | Rental truck and friends |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who carries your things | Our own trained movers | Whichever crew is free that day | You and whoever shows up |
| Will they still show up on July 1st? | Your date is confirmed in writing | Depends on finding a carrier | If the truck rental holds |
| Price you can count on | Written and itemized before any deposit | Estimate only; the carrier bills the rest | Rental, mileage, gas, plus any damage |
| Certificate for a condo or building manager | Sent free, usually within a day | Not always | Not available |
| If something is damaged | Cargo and liability coverage, full value option | Up to the carrier | Your own policy, if it applies |
| Outdoor stairs in winter | Salted, cleared and padded by the crew | Hit or miss | Up to you |
Montreal moving problems we solve
Why moving in Montreal is different
Distance is rarely the hard part of a Montreal move. The calendar, the stairs and the curb are. Here is what our coordinators sort out with you before the truck leaves LaSalle.
July 1st, Quebec's Moving Day
Because so many leases end on June 30, a large part of the city moves within a few days. Trucks and crews book up months ahead and prices climb. We suggest booking by spring, staying flexible on the hour, and considering June 28 to 30 or July 2 to 5 if your lease allows it.
Iron spiral staircases on plexes
The outside staircases on Plateau, Rosemont and Verdun plexes look great and move badly. Turns are tight, steps are narrow and railings scratch easily. We measure big pieces against the turns, take furniture apart when needed, and pad every railing the crew touches.
Borough parking rules and reserved curb space
Every borough handles moving trucks a little differently, and some ask for a permit and signs to hold curb space on moving day. We tell you what your borough expects and how much notice it needs, so the truck isn’t parked a block away.
Orange cones and closed streets
Construction season can close your street or your turn without much warning. We check the route the day before, plan a way around closures, and use the back lane when the building allows it.
Snow removal and tow-away signs
When the city clears snow, temporary no-parking signs go up and cars get towed. A winter move needs to avoid those hours, and the outdoor stairs need ice cleared and salt down before anyone carries a dresser.
Condo towers in Griffintown, downtown and Nuns' Island
Newer towers usually need a booked service elevator, a time slot and a certificate of insurance. We send the certificate to your building manager ahead of time and plan the crew around your elevator booking.
Crossing to Laval and the South Shore
Moves to Laval, Longueuil or Brossard are still local moves on the hourly rate. Bridge traffic is what we plan around: the Champlain and Mercier bridges and the Highway 15 crossing to Laval all change speed by the hour.
Moves between Montreal and Ontario
Leaving Quebec for Ottawa or Toronto, or coming the other way, adds an interprovincial leg to the move. We give you one fixed price, a confirmed delivery date and a crew that does both the loading and the unloading.
What we stand behind
Our commitments to every Montreal customer
The price is set before you pay a deposit
Rate, crew, minimum hours, travel time, deposit and cancellation terms are all on the estimate. If something changes on the day, the crew lead explains it and gets your OK before any extra work.
Coverage your building manager will accept
We carry Commercial General Liability and Motor Truck Cargo insurance. Condo towers and property managers often ask for a certificate before moving day, and we send it for free.
Movers on our own payroll
Everyone who comes to your door works for us. They’re screened before hiring, trained on stairs and heavy lifts, and they bring their own equipment instead of improvising on the day.
A real person on the line, day or night
Questions at 11 p.m. the week before July 1st are normal in Montreal. Our phones at 888-596-0669 never close, and the same coordinator keeps track of your file until the truck is empty.
Paperwork you can check. Quebec’s Office de la protection du consommateur advises people to get a mover’s terms in writing before moving day, and that’s how every Montreal booking works with us: rate, minimum, travel, deposit and cancellation are all on paper. Our fleet is registered under Ontario’s CVOR program, and under Canada’s National Safety Code that registration covers trucks crossing into Quebec. Company relocations get invoices your relocation provider can process, cross-border moves get the CBSA BSF186 goods list prepared for you, and your belongings stay with our crew from pickup to delivery. No subcontracting, and no holding furniture hostage over the bill.
Booking steps
Booking a Montreal move takes three steps
Send us the details
Call 888-596-0669 or use the form. We’ll need the date, both addresses, the apartment size (3½, 4½ and so on), the floor, and whether the stairs are inside or outside.
Check the estimate
The estimate lands in your inbox, listing how many movers are coming, what they charge, the travel hour, the protection plan and any packing. Compare it, question it, and book only when it makes sense to you.
Confirm and you're on the calendar
Once you confirm in writing, the date is reserved for you. A day or two before the move we call to confirm the arrival window and any changes, like a parking permit or an elevator booking.

What people say after moving with us
Rosemont to the Old Port in under four hours
Trust Canada handled my Montreal move from Rosemont to Old Port perfectly. The movers, Jonathan and Max, were punctual, polite, and careful with every box. My glass dining table and TV arrived without a single scratch. We started at 10 AM and finished in under 4 hours. Great value for the price.

Montreal FAQ
Questions Montrealers ask before they move
How much do movers cost in Montreal in 2026?
Expect about $120 to $170 per hour for two movers and a truck, $155 to $225 for three and $195 to $285 for four, with a 3-hour minimum and one hour of travel. A 3½ walk-up usually costs $480 to $1,020 in total, a 4½ or 5½ in a plex $930 to $1,800. Rates are higher in the last week of June and the first days of July.
How early should I book a mover for July 1st?
As early as you can. Many Montrealers book in March or April, and good time slots around June 30 and July 1 are gone well before June. If your lease allows a few days’ overlap, a weekday just before or after Moving Day is easier to get and costs less.
Do I need a permit to park the moving truck on my street?
It depends on the borough and the street. Some boroughs ask for a permit and temporary signs to reserve curb space, others don’t. Tell us your address when you book and we’ll explain what applies and how much notice you need.
Can you get a sofa or a fridge down an outdoor spiral staircase?
Usually, yes. We measure the piece against the tightest turn, take off legs, arms or doors when needed, and send enough movers to carry it safely. If something truly won’t fit, we tell you before move day so there are no surprises.
Where is your Montreal office?
We’re at 7401 Newman Blvd #34, LaSalle, QC H8N 2V7, in the borough of LaSalle, close to Highway 20 and the Mercier Bridge. Local moves on the island carry a single hour of travel time from there.
Do you move to Laval, Longueuil, Brossard and the West Island?
Yes, all the time. Moves to Laval, the South Shore and the West Island are local moves billed by the hour, not long-distance. We plan the bridge or highway part of the trip around traffic.
How are moves from Montreal to Ottawa or Toronto priced?
With one fixed written price based on your inventory and the distance. Montreal to Ottawa normally happens the same day; Toronto and the GTA take one to two days. The same crew loads and unloads, and nothing changes trucks on the way.
My lease ends June 30 but I can't move in until later. What can I do?
We can pick everything up on your last day, keep it in storage, and deliver when your new place is ready. You pay for one pickup and one delivery instead of two full moves. Ask for the storage option when you request your estimate.
